More About Mental Wellness

by sheenazzyPosted on September 3, 2023September 3, 2023

Mental wellness is a term that describes how well we cope with the challenges and opportunities of life. It is not just the absence of mental illness, but also the presence of positive mental qualities, such as:

  • Self-awareness. This means being able to recognize and understand your own thoughts, feelings, strengths, and limitations12
  • Self-regulation. This means being able to manage your emotions, impulses, and behaviors in healthy and constructive ways12
  • Self-care. This means taking care of your physical, mental, and emotional needs, such as getting enough sleep, eating well, exercising, relaxing, and seeking help when needed123
  • Resilience. This means being able to bounce back from difficulties, learn from mistakes, and adapt to changes123
  • Optimism. This means having a positive outlook on life, expecting good things to happen, and seeing challenges as opportunities for growth123
  • Purpose. This means having a sense of meaning and direction in life, pursuing your goals and passions, and contributing to your community124

Mental wellness is important for our overall well-being, happiness, and productivity. It can also help prevent or reduce the risk of developing mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety, or substance abuse12435

If you want to improve your mental wellness, you can try some of the following strategies:

  • Practice gratitude. Expressing appreciation for what you have and what others do for you can boost your mood and self-esteem. You can write down three things you are grateful for every day or thank someone who has helped you2
  • Practice mindfulness. Paying attention to the present moment without judgment can help you reduce stress and increase awareness. You can practice mindfulness by doing breathing exercises, meditation, yoga, or other activities that focus on your senses2
  • Practice positive self-talk. Replacing negative thoughts with positive ones can help you cope with challenges and improve your confidence. You can practice positive self-talk by saying affirmations, compliments, or encouragements to yourself or writing them down2
  • Seek social support. Connecting with others who care about you can help you feel less lonely and more supported. You can seek social support by reaching out to your friends, family, or community members, joining a club or group, or volunteering for a cause2
  • Seek professional help. If you are struggling with your mental wellness or have symptoms of a mental health problem, you should not hesitate to seek professional help from a doctor, therapist, counselor, or other mental health provider. They can offer you diagnosis, treatment, guidance, and support2

I hope this information helps you understand what mental wellness is and how to improve it.😊
